Hi folks,

Hope you are all doing as well as you can? Autumn has come into play with a vengeance that's for sure! I wanted to find out (although I don't like to moan) if any of you get a sore throat, sneezes, earache, fatigue etc etc does it last for days? I've had this since Thursday and it's generally bugging me very much. I stayed off work today as I felt so awful. Is it because we are immune supressed and things last longer for us and hit us harder?

Thanks.

Hi Lisa

Basically "yes". The RA compromises our immune systems and the drugs we take, generally to subdue an inappropriately active immune system, suppress it. We are more open to infection, viral and bacterial, and recovery takes considerably longer. We don't get hit harder than others it's simply our bodies are not able to offer the same resistance. Plenty of fluids, rest and warmth and keep joints gently mobile should help.

Hope you feel better soon,

Lyn x
My son, Ian, completed the BUPA Great North Run on 15th September running for the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS). You can read his story at http://www.justgiving.com/ianlukewilson

Lisa

Don't worry about moaning because that what we are here for ThumpUp As Lyn says with a lowered immune system it will take you longer to battle anything you catch.

I think all of us are dreading the onset of winter and the viruses and colds which inevitably follow. Even more worrying is the cold getting into the joints. I am on the look out for a fetching onsie this year as I absolutely hate the cold. My best friend in bed is my lovely hot water bottle (sorry Husband dear Smile )

Hope you start to feel a little better soon.

Take care

Jackie

Hi Jackie and Lyn

Thank you so much for replying to my post, I feel better within myself now I know it is part and parcel of RA. I must say I slept better last night, still not 100% but only took Monday off my work and at least I'm on my days off again now. Hope you are all doing ok and keeping warm.

Thanks again.

My recent cold took 3 weeks to get over. I had the same symptoms as a normal person with a cold but they felt more severe to me and I had terrible sweats and shivering. I ended up taking 2 weeks off work which really upset me as my sickness absence record was so good. I knew that I needed to rest though in order to get better. xx
